Cal ee four nee yah

Hello. Remember us? Its Matt and Kelly. Long time no see. Where ya been? Oh, me? Well I've been in the middle of the foothills with no internet or phone reception with the nearest internet being the blazing speed of dial up. Well you've been out of the loop so let's get you up to speed. No time to dawdle we've got some ground to cover.

The Cannery was great. The guys show was stellar and we got to drink cheap beer out of a can. Pretty much a recipe for a good time.

So before we took off we tried to make a tour around to see everyone. Here is Kelly using her finest self timer skills on the camera when we stopped to see Barb and Charles.

If I look large in the picture it probably because the camera adds 10lbs. That and Barb fed us the equivalent of a thanksgiving dinner. A good home cooked meal for the road.

The drive to Cali went pretty much without any hiccups. It was odd though at times we would drive for hours without seeing another car or person. After making it through Kansas you could imagine our excitement when we finally saw a change in elevation. You think I'm joking, but Kel's exact words were "Grab the camera! A hill!" So enjoy.

From there we kind of went into a highway trance. We just knocked out our 10 hours of driving, set up camp, put up camp, and started all over again. Do that a couple of times and then wham, you've made it to Cali. See its just that easy.

We didn't really get too anxious until we were about 30 min away. We pulled in as the sun was setting. Everything was a bit surreal after the long drive. It all had a drift of citrus as we strove through the orange groves accented nicely by all the reds from the sunset.

So we moved around a bit the next few days until they had decided on where to put us, hence the reason no one really got a "hey we made it call". Ah, nice to know you're near 30 and can still make the parents worry like you've missed curfew. :) We'll do better next time. But all in all camp is set up and we are official.

Since then we've tried to make the most of our time and not let the isolation let us get too lazy. Rocky and I have been a particularly rigorous regimen of exercise and reading. Here in this pic I am holding a camp chair ab crunch while pondering over James Williams' thoughts on the origin of Will in the human psyche. I think Rocky is just sleeping... slacker.

We did gather camp up to go camp in Kings Canyon before it got snowed in for the winter. It is the deepest canyon in the US. It is also in the middle of the giant redwood forest. The giant sequoia redwoods are the biggest trees in the world. If you click the pic below hopefully you can see me standing next to the fence by the tree.

Here's one a bit closer of Kel

We did a ton of hiking and Rocky only threatened to drag Kelly down the side of the mountain once. Apparently he thought a pine cone rolling down the side of the mountain was some type of rare mountain squirrel that needed some good chasin'. Kelly did not agree as he pulled her down the hill. There were some choice words echoing through the canyon that I believe need not be repeated as it may effect the standard of class we try to carry on this blog.

To answer your question yes a bear does crap in the woods. I knew you were wondering. Like I said "class".

So we stuck around for about three days and every single time we started a fire to cook it rained. Also at those elevations it got down to freezing at night so this is not the pleasant kind of rain that one would frolic in. No not frolic, curse perhaps but we won't go into that because of the aforementioned class.

Rare Mountain Squirrel or Pine Cone? I don't think anyone really knows.

So we got to see some great sights; canyon views, water falls, freakin' huge trees, and the crazy thing is it only took us about 45 minutes to get there.

Everything is going great and we've started our renovation project on the campground. Kelly is currently looking for a little part time work for some play money and so I can live the dream life of a kept man with a sugar momma. Here is a pic from our camp. We are on the top of a hill so we overlook the lake. OK, its no double rainbow but still pretty good.

We think we've found some better internet spots so hopefully it won't be so long on the next update. Miss you guys and catch you later.
